This was a fun one to find yesterday in Maine, and even more fun to open each of the boxes inside the larger box to find lots of antique bone gaming chips inside, most with handwritten numbers on them, and a handful of bone dice, too. Plus a full 52 card deck of Dondorf, Frankfurt playing cards dating I believe to the very beginning of the 20th century (a very early deck with indices), housed in a red satin draw string pouch embroidered with an ace of diamonds on one side and a five of diamonds on the other. So fun, so pretty, and a perfect excuse to host a cards night--with the variety of bone chips, marked from 1 to 100, making one want to host a high stakes game! The large box has a bevelled glass front and nicely jointed corners and everything is in excellent shape. It appears it once locked, but there is no key now. Late 19th c/turn of the century.
10 7/8” w x 6 3/16” d x 2 3/8” t, excellent condition, with a little wear/one stain to the emdroidery on the pouch. All contents documented are included.
