A gem of a naive 19th century watercolor in perfectly suited period frame, perhaps original to it. Not one thing more or less than exactly right I think, with a wonderful painterliness to the body of the very cat-like cat animating it with lots of life, and just a few strokes of china blue turning the bowl, too, into something special. Really quite an elegant feeling little painting as well as a charmingly naive one, likely done by a school child. I will very much miss this one when it is gone.
5 1/8" x 4 framed, as found- original glass I believe, period framw, wood back, suits it perfectly. Watercolor on lined paper, looks like laid to me. Lovely antique condition, with a few small stains/toning spots to the paper, all of a piece with it.
