This old oil on wood panel painting, better and more atmospheric in person, completely does it for--I love a painting of a path leading into the distance to begin with, but this one manages to evince a feeling of mystery in its emptiness, almost making me this of a De Chirico. With these elegant stone walls, and pop of acid green to the bush near center, which leads the eye right to the curve in the road. Just excellent. And with now much mellowed gold paint to the camphored edge, which framed the painting perfectly.
14 1/8" x 11 1/8" and in very good condition, with edge losses in a couple of spots, not detracting. Late 19th c. or so I believe.
