SOLD Great Old Varnished Cow Painting on Wood Panel

I found this one at the Rhinebeck Antiques show last weekend and was sold in one second flat--lots of life to this cow, and also a certain effortlessness to the rendering, and that white triangle at the center of its forehead lands just right to hold it all together. With a perfect wispiness to the end of its tail and painterly dark green grass all around its nicely hoofed feet. With a thin layer of stain/varnish over top, and lots of pencil writing all over the back, done in a few different hands, from a crude sketch of a house to lots of calculations.

8 7/8" x 8". Good condition, with old nail holes running along the top, I think just adding to its charm.
