What a curious little shelf this is, stamped on the back as having been made by Ebenezer Averill Boxworks. I've done some digging and have found a few Ebenezer Averill's from these parts from the 18th and 19th centuries, but have not found any citations of a Boxworks, so am not quite sure of the age of this piece, though I might guess late 19th/early 20th c. I'm also not quite sure what is was made for--perhaps for spools of thread and thimbles? It wouldn't accommodate anything much larger than those--but would be great for showcasing a collection of tiny things!
Very carefully made, I think its just terrific. It measures 7 7/8" tall x 6 3/4" across at widest x 2 5/8" deep and is in very good condition.
