Scarce Complete c. 1860s Hill's No. 12 Kindergarten Alphabet Blocks Set with Plain and Cursive Letters

Regular price $160.00

Gorgeous, and useful too. This is a scarce, early (c. 1860s), complete set of Hill's Alphabet blocks--especially rare for showing three iterations of each letter on the face of each block: upper and lower case cursive plus upper case block letter in between. (And I will admit that I--as if a child of five or six myself--have found them useful this week as reference tools in helping me decipher some 19th c. handwriting!) This is a complete set, A through M on one side, and flip them over for N through Z (in order, i.e. the A turns over to be N, the B turns to O, etc. ) Plus a few little extra blank ones in blue and red, made as plugs to fill the box, original to the set.  Fantastic color, softened and worn just right, in their smart looking original with plaid pattern paper sides, all in very good condition.  (These are precious sets and tend to be quite preciously priced!)

Box measures 7 1/8" x 4 5/8" x 1 3/4". Complete and in lovely used antique condition. Slide lid on boxes fits snugly and closes tight. Partial clean/minor split to lid underneath label, holding together just fine.
