Naive 19th Century Graphite Drawing, Horse and Bird Symbiosis

Regular price $170.00

Just the sort of drawing that makes me love drawings so much—not much fuss here, but such a perfectly true portrayal of symbiosis, with this duck or dove resting just perfectly in the cradle of the horse’s saddle—and in return perhaps saving this horse from a heavier rider! To my eye, not one line more or less than there needs to be, just exactly right.

C.  1880s; I’ve found a birth record for Franklin David Rohr, to who it is attributed on the back of the frame (with the first and second names reversed) noting that he was born in 1876 in Seneca, Ohio.

8 3/16 x 7 7/8 framed. Sight: 7” x 6 3/4”.  Some old scattered stains and very light creases, no matter at all. Sold in the old wooden frame, with glass, that I found it in, which I think suits it just fine and looks to have been not too long ago papered over on the back.
