It was fun to find this one in Central MA this week, and more fun to spend some time with it. It spans a number of years in the 1830s, and while I can't find the name of its then owner on it anywhere, it reveals lots about him--a young man in college, I believe specifically Brown University (noted once). Included are lists of the money received from his father each month (a lot!), money spent--including lots on clothing, and, my favorite, a list of books purchased for school (lots of Greek!) A nice document of the life of a well to do young man in college in New England in the 1830s. Plus this beautiful hand-tooled leather cover with wrap around strap.
5 1/2 x 4 3/16. 24 pp. about half full, a representative sample documented. All in very good condition.
