I not sure if this would be a cutler, or a tool-maker, sharpening what looks like a knife but perhaps is some other tool on this grinding wheel...but I sure love the image of him! And what a diligent, patient grinder he looks to be, and pretty great in his overalls and striped shirt with rolled up sleeves. I thought this one might make a nice gift for anyone doing a good job persevering through the daily grind, though all the better if literally so!
This looks very much to be hand-drawn in black ink but the postcard has a bit of glossy finish so I'm not 100% sure. At the bottom, a note from the sender, Grace: "Think of me doing this. Love to all." On reverse just the address of the recipient, Miss Sadie Foss in Cedar Grove, Maine.
3 1/2" x 5". Some age toning /uneveness of color on front and back; it must have been stored in a scrapbook as the corners on reverse show lighter. None of this really detracts from the greatness of the image, which is jet black and crisp.
