Spending a lot of time on the New England coast, I've come to very much appreciate folk art painted shells (and being from the clamming hub of Ipswich, MA, I especially like a painted clam shell), but it's none to often I come across one as charming as this. Written on the flip side of the shell, in pencil, appears to be the phrase "speed boat", and a great little boat it is, red flag waving at front, set against rich blue sea and sky. Very atmospheric, with a great patina, feeling rather as if a view through a scope.
3 1/4" w x 2 7/8" t x 3/4" d. One small chip to the shell at far left, and a bit of paint loss in a couple of spots as evident. Overall good condition, with a nice patina and sense of atmosphere.
