I found these together in a ziplock bag, and found them so beautiful laid straight side by side I could not resist them. I find pencils generally beautiful things, but these big fat yellow ones all the more so. Grossman’s was once a fixture on the South Shore of Boston, so they carry nostalgia for a pre-Home Depot era too. (The company was started in the 1910s by Louis Grossman and had expanded to 35 stores in New England states by the 1960s, helping to supply lumber for the great suburban expansion. Its last store closed in 1993, driven out of business by increased competition from national chains.) Perfect for keeping in the studio or basement workshop, or an especially good gift for a Quincy-ite or New England builder!
