This is the third of three early 20th century Dutch school work samplers I am listing, which I purchased from a seller in the Netherlands, and the humble, pragmatic nature of which I've fallen in love with. To me, these have the feel of minimalist drawings or paintings--very subtle, and all about line and materiality, with such an immediacy that I'd want to pin it straight on the wall from the top two corners and just let it hang loose. This one was done with white thread on white linen, and shows various seam and joining work.
This one is a bit darker in tone than the other two, and shows a few scattered small pin rust stains, which give it a nice sense of history and age. Overall very good condition. 20 1/4" x 8 3/4" not including top diagonal loop.
