A curious and I think quite compelling old photograph, late 19th/early 20th c. I believe--hard to know if the younger women here are the wives of the wounded, or their nurses--or perhaps both. The child shadowed in the doorway with hand laid on the skirt of the older woman appears rather sickly, so I do wonder if perhaps a facility for individuals with polio? Whatever the case, a striking and moving image I think, with this cast of characters feeling very much a family one way or another.
As mounted on black card (original): 6" x 5". Photo: 4 1/4" x 3 1/4". Very good condition.
