Buildings For Sale at 1/2 Their Value: Vintage Photo of Sign in Snow and Dog

This photograph feels like a novel to me, with something of a hard-scrabble, Steinbeck-ian sort of saga aspect to it. For me, there's quite a lonely feeling to that hand-painted sign propped up in the snow and  surrounded by fallen limbs, with this Border Collie (right?) looking on, as if contemplating its own fate.
