I don't spend a ton of time looking at jewelry, but sometime something will jump out at me, like this terrific vintage Modernist/Brutalist cast bronze brooch. Signed BC on the back, I've learned that it was made by Bernard Chaudron (b 1931 in Lille, France), who established ateliers in Montreal and later in Val-David (north of Montreal), where from the late 60s to the late 70s he created works in gold, bronze, sterling silver & pewter using the lost wax process, and also collaborative pieces with his wife, Louise Chaudron, who was an enamelist. Chaudron was a among a great crop of Canadian jewelry designers of that era including Guy Vidal & Robert Larin, Hans Gehrig and Rafael Alfandary.
In excellent condition, with really no signs of wear, this brooch is bold but refined, and super wearable. Signed BC (engraved by hand) on the back. 2 1/8" w x 1 1/2" t x 1/2" d.
