My photos do no justice to this one, much better in person, with a strong presence and a richness to the striated green stone that is not well conveyed here. At first I thought a woman, then I thought a man, but of course its always the mystery and multiplicity of aspects held in Inuit carvings like this that makes me love them so much. With wonderful modeling and detailing of the hair, and a mouth slightly more open on one side than the other, as if forever on the cusp of speaking.
6" t x 4 1/2" w x 2 7/8" d and in excellent condition. Signed on the underside with disc number E91082, I believe. C. 1960s-80s. Stands flush and sturdy on its base, carved to lean just a hair forward.
