As Found: Lovely Little Antique Band Box with Curious Treasures Inside

Regular price $75.00

So curious, and lovely! I was delighted to find this small band box--covered in hand-printed paper and with old handwritten ledger page adhered to the underside-- in New Hampshire this week, and then was even more delighted to find treasures inside when I opened it. What are, or were, these pretty little rounds of paper cut from early playing cards with wooden disks behind many of them, all punched through with tiny wooden posts? Spinners or markers from some sort of game? Templates of some sort? I'd love to know if you do!  Whatever the case, they're beautiful little things, with bits of stencil painted trumps on the backs of the playing cards showing here and there (a jet black space, part of a red diamond, etc.) And another pretty little paper covered box inside, too--that one made by a stationer I believe, embossed 1892 on the underside of the lid.

Box measures 2 1/2" in diameter x 1 1/2" r. Smaller box: 1 1/4" in diameter. All pictured included. Toning to the exterior of the larger box as evident, but still very lovely; interior contents bright and all in good structural shape.
