So beautiful! I believe the hand-carved wooden chips and bone dice here were made for playing Parcheesi, which became popular here in the last quarter of the 19th century and requires 16 chips and two dice to play (so there are a few spares here, too!) The wonderfully sculptural handmade leather dice cups--with cork bottoms on their interiors and small nails around the bottoms of their exteriors--fit together so as to keep the contents secure, but then open up to be used for throwing the dice. Of course I'd probably forgo actually playing Parcheesi and just make up my own game to play with them, and just enjoy looking at them the rest of the time. Pretty special.
Individual leather cups measure about 3 1/4" tall. Larger dice measure about 7/16" cubed. All in good antique condition, 1880s or so I would guess. Sold as a set with all contents pictured.
