A very beautiful image I think, though I don't know what all of these men and mostly young women were gathered for--in their coats and hats with umbrellas in hand, though, they were clearly prepared to be out in the elements. What a field of faces, captured in their beautiful singularity and yet so much appearing of a unified whole, as if in uniform, and with long pigtail braids hanging past the shoulders of almost every young woman. Looking rather as if the've just emerged en masse through dense fog, with the lack of specificity of place making it all the more striking and atmospheric. And on reverse, another photograph, a school portrait I presume, with half the young women in school uniforms and the other half in kimono.
First photo 5 5/8" x 4" mounted to 8 1/2" x 6 3/4" black paper, with writing in white chalk above and below. Reverse photo: 7 3/4" x 5 5/8". Good condition, with one small black ink mark at left center edge of first photo.
