In my book, it's always time for a love token, and now of course it is nearly valentine season. This is the third of a group of three small 19th century theorem ink and watercolors I found last summer in Pennsylvania, all done by the same person, each with a different hand-stamped sentiment. (Theorem watercolors like this were made using hand-cut stencils, with the paint, I recently learned, often blown onto the paper via a glass tube, like a straw.) Of course I especially love the butterfly here, with smoky gray abdomen and pincer-like antennae. With super rich color and lovely ink drawn flourishes around the "Think of Me." C. mid 19th c.
Paper: 5" x 3". Very good condition.
