I find this tall, textured black vase featuring two large, long-necked birds (emu?) extremely intriguing. The expressive but subtly rendered brown, yellow and pinkish birds -- one on each side of the vase -- at first seem more like abstract passages than figurative forms, but then there they are, heads to the ground amidst green grass and pink flowers. With gold banding at rim and base, the whole piece feels surrealistic--an unusual and compelling object and great addition to any collection of mid-century or contemporary ceramics.
8” tall with a diameter of 5" at widest, with a 3” opening at the top.
