I guess barbed wire balls are a thing people made, and make--but I don't believe I've ever actually come across one before, and to me this thing is rather transcendent as an object and a sculpture, making me think at least as much of Meret Oppenheim, say, as it does of a tumbleweed. No small feat to form such a dense and beautifully composed sphere as this while navigating the strength of the iron wire and its barbs either (!), yielding an object both intensely visceral and richly metaphoric. Really very beautiful, all the way around, and of the perfect scale to treat as a sculpture.
From approx 9 to 9 1/2" in diameter. Rusting to the barbed wire, all to the good. Tightly wound, beautifully formed, very sturdy.
