I've got a particular penchant for paintings of pipes that I think is grounded with Magritte. This trompe l'oeil style oil on canvas is not tightly painted enough to fool anyone, which perhaps makes it especially Magritte-ian! I take that for an opium pouch at right, with what I presume is meant to be yellow silk at top and then a red tie, and then a couple of cigars kind of awkwardly poking out from inside the box? And a corn cob pipe at near left, completing what thus feels like a smoker's world tour! With those matches especially nicely done.
20" x 10" and in good antique condition, showing general wear and paint loss around the edges, and the reverse showing two old patches.
