O.V. Humann c. 1930s Monhegan Island, Maine Seascape Watercolor, Original Frame

Regular price $125.00

Selling remotely via photos can be frustrating at times, as photos often do no justice at all to things, which is often especially the case when there is glass in the way! (I considered removing this from the frame and just selling the watercolor, which I think is very good, but the frame, quite nice itself, is original to it, and the title of the watercolor written on the reverse, so I decided to leave as is. (Happy to remove it and ship for less if preferred.)

The large watercolor, titled "East Wind" and painted on Monhegan Island, is signed O V Humann at lower right, whom I've learned was O Victor Humann (1874-1951) a Massachusetts based artist, primarily of landscapes and seascapes, who was also instructor the Museum School for the Worcester Art Museum. I've had the pleasure of visiting Monhegan Island, off the coast of Maine, long a destination for artists--and I believe this seascape, which feels very much of that place, was painted during the first quarter of the 20th century, Monhegan’s "Golden Age of Art."

23 3/4" x 19 5/8, framed as found, with tan mat and carved, gold painted frame, original to it. Watercolor 14 1/2" x 10 1/2" Signed at lower right. Good condition. General age to the mat and minor paint loss/general wear to the frame.
