Beautifully crafted in the 1960s, this piece by Andersen Design Studio, Boothbay Harbor, Maine, has a porcelain clay body and a subtle, painterly glaze, which makes it feel rather like a watercolor painting. Nuanced and unique from every angle, it could be used as a serving bowl or as a vase. It is especially nice displayed where it can be seen from 360 degrees.
Founded in 1954 by Weston and Brenda Andersen and still in operation, Andersen Design Studio produced several tree of life pieces -- here the tree is white, against a painterly pale pink ground, and wraps around nearly half of the vase. The underside is signed AD, with a B below for Brenda.
