Favorite Ever Antique PA Make Do Glass Stem Pin Cushion

Regular price $145.00

I've never been completely sold on a "make do" pin cushion of this ilk, constructed over the base of a broken glass or candlestick...a brilliant and resourceful idea for sure, but most I see feel a bit too makeshift, with tied string or yarn rather than careful hand-stitching securing the fabric to the glass.  Then I spotted this one at a great antiques shop in Pennsylvania and fell in love! Pretty leaf pattern on the pressed glass stem, super tight stitching around the base of the pin cushion where it meets the glass (not a bit of wiggle) and wonderful hand-sewn patchwork covering, beautifully aged and worn, with a lovely softness to the color now, excellent all the way around. To my sensibilities, the perfect example of one of these. C. 1880s or so, I believe.

3" in diameter x 3 1/2" t. Very good antique condition--clearly well used, very much to the good, but with not a lost stitches or notable hole that I can see, very sound and stable, and very usable still.
