Curious Tightly Wrapped Layers of Lead Foil Ball (2 lbs)

I love this thing, found at my favorite family owned cabinet of old wonders and curiosities sort of a shop in New Hampshire this week. It is solid, and heavy, and was made it appears by wrapping one scrap of lead foil over another, again and again. I have no idea its origins, but presume made by a worker regularly using lead foil--a plumber or electrician or ? Feels like it has a good bit of age to it and it really quite a beautiful, sculptural, powerful feeling thing!

2 3/4 diameter. As found, great condition. Weighs just shy of 2 pounds. Solid and very tightly packed, not peeling etc.
