On a recent antiquing expedition to Maine I became pretty obsessed with old wooden spoons and paddles, resisting most until I came across this one...wow, is it beautiful! Photos cannot do justice to its patina--it is worn super smooth, with an incredible sheen...just spectacular. I think it is very old, perhaps 18th century in fact, and really love the shape of it, with a nice long handle, notched details and middle and end, and wonderfully shaped "blade." Really, this is just about the most perfect kitchen implement I can imagine, including for the fact that it would be useful for everything from mixing to scraping, flipping, etc. Or, it would be easy to tie a string or ribbon around the end and hang it from the wall just to admire it. So nice.
