Four drawings total here, shown across the first and second photos--the first the largest and the other three postcard sized. Together they portray adventures of Ned and Fred and Ellis: heading to the woods with a cart full of apple tree knots (which Ned alone seems to have chopped), burying a skunk, and chauffeuring a cow while a cat runs along beside them, and then a big question mark begging the question of what came next!? Seems perhaps the work of two different hands contributing to the tale-telling, or else a conscious decision to simplify to stick figure illustration! Silly but also pretty great.
Sold as a set. Good condition. Apple knots: 8 1/2" x 6 3/8" as mounted to paper. Set of three mounted to ledger paper: 11 1/2" x 7 1/2" paper, each 5 1/2" x 3 1/4. On the back of the first is a 1941 newspaper clipping of the lovely young woman winner of a local cow milking contest, and the others were mounted to a ledger page dated 1884.
