I love the feeling of wildness in this late 19th c. graphite drawing, making the march ahead for our man with cane iseem like a long and arduous one. But one can see a little house and maybe a church with steeple too on the far horizon, beckoning, and so he sets forth. Feels like a metaphor for all of life to me, though I also like the specificity of "Durham CT" declared at the bottom. And on the reverse, simply "23 years."
10 1/4 x 7 5/8 and in good condition, on good weight paper, with a few smudges to the white of the paper but the drawing clear and strong.
