The Outrage Altered 1964 Press Photo #2 (Again with Dagger!) with Collage, Mounted to Board

Regular price $30.00

Current mood, and quite cathartic! This is the second of two mounted publicity/press photo film stills listed today from MGM's 1964 film The Outrage, directed by Roger Soubie and starring Claire Bloom (holding the dagger here) and Laurence Harvey (back to the tree), with the cast also including Paul Newman and William Shatner. Looking closely, one can see that the leaves of the trees above them have actually been pieces together from a couple of different photos, closely matched but with the seams showing, I'm not sure why. I believe this would be called a production photo, altered for print by a newspaper or for other promotional use. For me, the appeal is so much about her, sleeve torn at the elbow, dagger raised, and intense and intentional look on her face--while his gesture seems to read: "who, me?"  Very apt for the moment.

A western, The Outrage  the film was based on the Japanese stories Rashomon and In A Grove by Ryunosuke Akutagawa (made into the film Rashomon by Kurosawa)-- a recounting of the same story by different people, including the victim.

Mounted: 14 1/4" x 10 7/8". Photo: 8 1/4" x 7 1/2". Good condition.
