I recently listed a bunch of these (further down in the "just in" section of listings)--but a bunch can be overwhelming, and I find them each quite singular, so decided to list just a couple individually this week that to me feel most aligned with other things I'm listing today. And so, this one, double sided, and both sides I think equally strong, with the pink and blue side feeling to me like a perfect complement to the tumbling blocks doll quilt I've listed today, but both sides of this one also making me think of technology, and architecture; entrances and walls, permeability and exclusion, etc etc. etc.
This/these represent sophisticated examples of kindergarten inventor Friedrich Froebel's (1782 - 1852) "Gift 13", paper cutting-- made using Froebel's proscribed "cutting papers," which were produced in the U.S. by Milton Bradley among others. The learning focus of cut paper works was about the transformation of materials, and the project here was to use all of the pieces from the paper square from which they were cut to create the design; nothing wasted. I find the results just about as aesthetically satisfying as anything else in the world. The set this one came from were all surely done by a kindergarten teacher, who seems to have taken great pleasure and pride in fully exploring the possibilities of the exercise.
Approx 10" x 10", cut paper mounted to cream colored light weight card. Both sides in very good condition.
