You are surely smarter than I am and can identify the building at the center of the lid on this antique papered box; looks a bit like the U.S. Capital building, but not quite. I find it a lovely thing whatever the case, made all the better for the blue ink lion engraving adhered to the underside of the lid, and what I believe is Japanese woodblock printed paper on the bottom, signed in red ink characters. And then just a fragment of text along one edge of the lid, suggesting that only "true religion" endures! A curious one, pretty special feeling.
Measured on the diamond, corner to corner: 5" x 3 5/8" x 1 3/4" t. Sturdy and sound, some toning and a little paper loss here and there, I think all to the good.
