A luminous antique seascape, much better in person, with a marvelous sense of depth and force to the deep greener-than-blue sea. And just the most gorgeous billowing sails one that ship, which looks to be heading straight for shore with alacrity it looks to me--but with a rich sense of drama to the rough sea between ship and land. With fantastic craquelure to the varnished surface, very much to the good in my opinion, enhancing sense of atmosphere and presence and age. Terrific.
10 x 14, oil on canvas, original varnished surface. The canvas is a bit loose from the stretcher on the short sides, just due to the age; a few additional nails should be added to tighten it, which I'm happy to do before sending, just ask.
