I purchased this one from a favorite dealer in the Hudson River Valley, with lots of bins of drawings and photos and ephemera to dig through. I love it for feeling like a whole world on a corner, and iconic of a Manhattan long gone. (The Eskimo Ice cart also makes me think of David Hammons's brilliant snowballs for sale street performance of 1983.) A handwritten note on the reverse of the photo reads "Greenwich Village, 1970s"--and looking closely one can see "Three Steps Down" in the window next to the seated man at right, which was the name of a cafeteria for artists and NYU students on West 8th St. I believe, which later became a shoe store...
