This absolutely stunning hand-wrought hammered aluminum tray/charger features exquisite low relief renderings of all of the signs and names of the zodiac in low relief on its face. Marked with an "A" on the back, it was made by Arthur Armour (1908-1998), who founded his aluminum business in Grove City, PA in 1933, and became known for finely rendered, exceptionally crafted examples of American Machine Age design.
An Armour zodiac tray very similar to this one was featured in "Aluminum By Design," a 2002 exhibition organized by the Carnegie Museum of Art, which highlighted the best of American Machine Age design and craftsmanship in aluminum.
18.25ʺ diameter. Vintage, circa 1940. Very good condition, with minor surface scratches consistent with age.
