I've got a super weakness for drawings--and things in general, really--that show lots of time and effort invested, so this old drawing won me immediately with its painstakingly drawn tiny bricks! With a little research I discovered that the Schomberg Public School was a one room schoolhouse in Schomberg, Kings Township, Ontario, Canada, and I found two photos of it from just a few years after this drawing was made (included in photos), which tell us that this drawing was very accurate, right down the wonderful fish-topped weathervane! My guess would be that it was made by a student at the school, with the dates at lower left, September 03-July 04 marking the school year--and indeed I might think it took him or her much of the year to finish it! Really sweet.
Sepia toned ink on a natural colored paper; color is as accurate as I can get it. In excellent condition, crisp and clean and bright; the only flaws are glare in my photos!--and in a really nice old black-painted wooden frame. 13 5/8" x 10 5/8" x 1 1/8" framed; visible image size 10 5/8" x 7 3/8".
