Vintage c. 1970 Fornasetti Conchiglie (Seashell) Plate

Regular price $95.00

A happy surprise to find this one at a shop in coastal New Hampshire the other day where I don't often find much--and it was a bit hidden in a far corner, not identified as Fornasetti by the dealer. But Fornasetti it is, stamped on reverse and signed, too--one of a set of "Conchiglie" dinner plates Fornasetti produced in the late 1960s/early 1970s (there's a set of six on 1st dibs for $1650.) With sprawling starfish at center, and a mussel (complete with beard) among the seashells (plus one fish) circling around the perimeter, I think this is my favorite of the bunch. Great color and detail, super graphic, bright white porcelain--a nice one for hanging on the wall, or perhaps even better to use as a tray for serving amuse-scale fruits-de-mer.

9 1/4" in diameter. One small rim flaw just to the front of the fish's tail fin--looks like a glaze chip (sliver) to me rather than a repair; took me a while to notice it; stable and pretty minor, as documented.
