I've found it difficult to determine exactly when and where the term Jackstraws was used to refer to these vs. spillikins--I've had a few sets very very similar to these, with the only difference being the name printed on the box. I think quite possible these were made in England for an American audience, where Jackstraws seems to have been the more common name. Whatever the case, a lovely set, near complete I think, with some hand-colored birds and figures and sword handles, etc. among them, my favorite being what looks like a snake with stripes of green. There is one piece that seems to be a hook, though looks like it may have lost the very end of its curled end. It works fairly well, though also pretty easy to fashion another from a piece of wire.
Box measures 5 1/4 x 1 13/16 x 1 1/8 t. General light wear to the box, and all pieces are in nice condition.
