(Hard to photograph because that black paint absorbs all the light--so I set it atop a block, which maybe helps a bit.) I believe this is quite an early carved boot--American I believe, and earlyish 19th c. I would guess--and I believe it was meant to function as a pipe tamper. I really love the form, very folky and a little awkward, but also with this great high heel. And I especially love the old iron nails that run both down the front and around the perimeter of the sole and across the heel. (And making it seem as if it might have been made and used to serve as a match striker too.) Charming.
3 1/8" t x 2 1/16" x 15/16" and in good antique condition, great old patina.
