A real beauty of an old folk art ship in a bottle, which I found yesterday in New Hampshire and believe dates to the about the first decade of the 20th century. Wonderfully done, with four masts supporting a complex matrix of pulled thread lines, all still held taut, and then this fabulous paint job below, with graphic black and white for the hull, and then blue dabs on white for the sea it sails upon, looking like a sponge-painted pattern. Plus what looks like a little puff of smoke emanating from the top of the cabin near the center. Really a nice example, of the perfect size and scale, which would rest upright with a little museum wax underneath or of course set on a simple stand.
