Yum. Just about as satisfying an antique clock face as I can envision, with gorgeous rich black hand-painted roman numerals against creamy white, four point stars painted between each, and a smaller dial below marking quarters, probably corresponding to a chime. And then these excellent Doric style columns to either side, giving it the feel of a stately facade. I love time-related objects of all sorts, and perhaps especially those that no longer keep it, thus becoming more like symbols or icons of the very idea of time, so my attraction to this is as an object--though of course it could be reanimated with new mechanics and set to work keeping time again. Stands steady on its own and also easily hung on the wall, boldly graphic but with a wonderful presence of the hand.
8 3/8" t x 7 1/4"w x 7/8", very good antique condition. It appears there is a bit of old black fabric running under and just showing (barely) along the interior edges of the columns, almost as if remnants of a curtain or veil--??
