Late 18th/early 19th century continental European would be my guess with this saintly, very soulful beauty, once part of a whole carved wooden figure. Clearly with some loss around one glass blue eye, and it looks likely like some old repair/repainting around the other, which to me makes her look all the more soulful and expressive, as if the patron saint for women who have endured despite the odds stacked against them. (and I find the exposed wood on the flat of her nose especially beautiful, as if having knocked up against many a glass ceiling.) The bust stands on its own, while leaning back at a fairly dramatic rake when viewed from the sides as if in defiance of gravity. Love.
4 1/16" t x 2 7/16" across at shoulders x 1 3/8" deep at base. Loss around one eye as evident and old repair/repainting around the other I believe, somewhat more evident in photos (shot with magnification) than in hand. There is a small hole in the top of the head, which perhaps once held a crown, or halo! Stable and sound and not fragile.
