I ALWAYS have an eye out for old parquetry sets but only very very rarely do I come across one; to me they're like Froebel kindergarten blocks crossed with color cubes crossed with an old wooden puzzle, and just so pretty. This one I believe dates to the late 19th century and was produced in Germany (for international distribution), and I believe, based on another similar I found a few years ago, would have had two complete layers worth of double-sided (different colors on each side) wooden triangularly shaped tiles. Enough for one full layer plus nine extras remain in this set (plus two diamond shapes that I believe landed here from a different set.) It requires a good bit of trial and error (or brain power!) to configure them in such a way as to make a square--and the extras enable additional possibilities. But equally rewarding is just creating free form designs outside of the box!
Box 5 1/4" x 5 1/4" x 1". All tiles included shown in first photo. Box and tiles in very good condition, aside from three tiles (can treat them as extras) that show some surface roughness--fronts and backs of those three shown in a detail.)
