Having once spent a whole lot of time conversing with my dolls (or ordering them around), and having once saved up many weeks of allowance to buy a doll stroller to stroll them around in, I do have a particular fondness for, and sense of identification with, photographs of young girls and their doll companions. This double portrait, though, is another thing too-- a portrait of laundry day! In addition to the linens and rags hanging from the laundry line (with lace details visible), to the left of our girl are two wash buckets, one with scrub board resting on the side, and the other, smaller (child scale), stencil painted: "GOOD BOY" with stars all over. (I'd really love to have that bucket!) Formally excellent and detail dense, quite a striking photograph I think.
6 1/2 x 4 1/4, mounted albumen I believe, in very good condition.
