I knew nothing of Cockcroft plates when I found these, I just thought they were lovely and beautifully done, clearly hand-painted and also very cheerful! With a quick search I learned these were made by Edith Varian Cockcroft (American 1881-1962), and that her plates are quite a known and collected thing. These probably date to the 1930s or so, and I’d guess were once two of a dinner set. I must say I like these two as much as anyothers I’ve found through searching, and would be inclined to use them for serving special treats, especially chocolate ones!
