I found this rattle at Brimfield, purchased from a seller who found it at an estate in North Carolina, where it had been used by the grandmother of the house to scare away creatures invading her garden. I love its elemental make do-ness, with the flat wood handle punched right through the other end of the tin can. With beans I presume inside making the--loud--rattle. And made special with green paint and squiggles on either side, I presume representing snakes she meant to scare away!
10 7/8" l x 2 5/8" in diameter. Great vintage condition, sturdy and effective!
