Man with Lost Eye, Pink Cheeks, Voluminous Coat, 19th C. Full Plate Tintype

Regular price $185.00

Striking to see a young man with a lost eye uncovered by a patch, and the combination of it, together with his pinked cheeks and very oversized coat  make him seem both deeply vulnerable but also somehow protected. (The very wide sleeves and extra long arms of that coat keep making me think of Joseph Beuys' felt suits.) To my eye there is also a sense of the surreal about it, with the fringe on the arm of the chair feeling of another (David Lynch-ian) sort world, enhanced by the blur to the far bottom of the image. Quite a striking and affecting image I think, with scattered spotting/erosion to the surface of the tintype to my eye just enhancing the effect.

8 1/2" x 6 3/8". Scatted surface spotting/erosion as evident and a couple of pretty minor bends. Lies flat; stable and not fragile.
