How much I love this seal! At least I think it is a seal; it is possible it is a sea lion, or even a tusk-less walrus. Beautifully carved of what I believe is a green soapstone, with a polished, smooth surface, he's got incised round eyes and incised dots for whiskers, with wonderfully shaped front and back flippers. I especially love him from the top view, with his great elongated body seeming poised and ready to take off swimming!
The seal is inscribed with two sets of numbers on his underside--the first set crossed out and a second set -- 35759--below them. I am not certain whether he was made in Alaska or Canada; there is no sign of a sticker on his base. He measures approximately 6 1/4" long x 2 1/4" tall x 2 1/8" wide and is in excellent condition.
