The seller I purchased this from thought it may have been made as a practice or test piece by a metalworker long ago, which seems plausible to me; it was clearly made from one piece of brass, with a wonderfully imperfect seam where the edges were soldered together. (It is hollow inside.) Whatever the case, certainly it was done by hand and I believe has quite a bit of age to. To me it is satisfying in the way that antique geometric solid blocks are, but all the better for being made of brass. Really a lovely object, large enough to be treated as a small sculpture but also great on the desk as a paperweight.
3 1/4” x 3 1/4” x 2 3/4” , 8 oz. I have not touched the brass, which has a very nice warm patina, with scattered spotting.
